Graphic Design Case Study: Oxy2Mask Creative Refresh

Executive Summary

Oxy2Mask had a credibility problem hiding in plain sight: the creative looked unhealthy. Their primary visual motif—a dingy, gray-green “smoky airflow” treatment—read as noxious, while the copy said “breathe easier.” That mismatch quietly undercut trust before a clinician ever got to the data. MESH rebuilt the creative system so the visual language matched the promise, clarified why the claims matter, and produced campaign-ready assets that worked across ads, collateral, and distributor workflows.

The Need

Oxy2Mask is a counterintuitive product in a conservative clinical environment. That means the brand can’t afford “close enough” marketing. It needed creative that:

  • Builds confidence fast (instead of triggering doubt)

  • Communicates benefit before complexity

  • Makes defensible claims understandable and relevant

  • Helps distributors sell without having to explain away the marketing

The Challenge

Visuals communicated the opposite of the promise

The smoky airflow treatment created a subconscious reaction: this looks like something I don’t want in my lungs. That’s the exact opposite of “breathe easier.”

Claims were defensible, but not meaningful yet

They had strong performance points, but the messaging didn’t consistently connect:

  • what the claim is

  • why it matters clinically

  • what changes for the RT / nurse / workflow

Trust is fragile in this category

In oxygen delivery, “interesting creative” isn’t the goal. Believability is. If the visuals feel off, you lose the room.

Needed to work across channels and partners

The creative had to translate into:

  • paid social and digital ads

  • print/digital journal placements

  • sales collateral

  • distributor partner usage

The Approach

Step 1: Diagnose the mismatch like a conversion problem

We treated the visuals as part of the value prop. If the imagery triggers the wrong emotion, it’s not “branding”—it’s funnel leakage.

Step 2: Align the visual language to the clinical promise

We replaced “murky airflow” with visual direction that communicates:

  • clarity

  • trust

  • clinical calm

  • modernity without gimmicks

Step 3: Clarify the messaging hierarchy

We structured the narrative so the audience gets, in order:

  1. benefit / outcome

  2. why it matters in their workflow

  3. supporting proof and tech explanation

  4. product-specific details (only once trust is earned)

Step 4: Create a reusable creative system, not one-off ads

We developed assets that could be repurposed across campaigns and channels—so every new placement didn’t become a fresh reinvention exercise.

What We Delivered

Creative refresh direction + systemization

  • New visual approach aligned to “breathe easier” and clinical trust

  • Design patterns that could carry across ads, collateral, and social

  • Guardrails to keep the creative from drifting back into “hazy/noisy” territory

Updated ad concepts that earned attention without breaking credibility

  • Explored multiple concepts (including some intentionally bold options)

  • Narrowed to concepts that balanced:

    • platform fit

    • clinical tone

    • clarity of promise

    • low confusion risk

“Why it matters” messaging improvements

  • Translated claims into buyer-relevant meaning

  • Reduced “feature trivia” and increased outcome framing

  • Strengthened proof structure without overstating anything

Sales/distributor-ready versions

  • Built creative that distributors could use without awkward caveats

  • Supported partner rollouts with aligned collateral and messaging

The Solution

A creative system that stops fighting the product and starts supporting it:

  • Visuals reinforce trust instead of triggering doubt

  • Messaging makes claims meaningful by tying them to workflow and outcomes

  • Ads and collateral share a consistent logic, not random styles

  • Distributors can sell with confidence because the creative actually helps

The Results

  • Eliminated the core visual contradiction that was undermining credibility

  • Improved message clarity by connecting “claims” to “why it matters”

  • Delivered campaign-ready creative that could run across placements and partners

  • Reduced internal friction and second-guessing by establishing a coherent system

What Changed and Why It Worked

Before: the creative made people hesitate—because the visuals felt inconsistent with the clinical promise. Even good copy can’t save a first impression that triggers doubt.

After: the visuals and messaging told the same story. And in a category where trust is the gatekeeper, that alignment matters because buyers don’t evaluate the data until they feel safe enough to keep reading.
