Financial Consultancy Case Study: Building a Unified, Content-Led Growth Engine
Executive Summary
A financial consultancy/brokerage with three very different service lines had growth potential—but no real sales process, no marketing infrastructure, and almost zero cross-sell. MESH unified the company’s message, rebuilt inside-sales enablement, implemented Salesforce as the system of record, and launched a hub-and-spoke content engine (blog + premium assets) supported by segmented email, SEO/SEM, native content promotion, events, and targeted direct mail for the brokerage line. In two years, the company added nearly 20,000 qualified prospects to the funnel, delivered 2,500 qualified leads to sales, increased website traffic 20x, and lifted email open rates to 35% with CTRs averaging 10%+.

The Need
The company needed a marketing and sales strategy that could accelerate growth across three distinct business areas: Financial Consulting, HR Consulting, and Insurance Brokerage.
The Challenge
No real sales process
Sales activity lived in rolodexes and occasional internal meetings—nothing repeatable, trackable, or scalable.
No technology or lead tracking
They weren’t using technology to support business development, and there were no lead generation or tracking systems in place.
Minimal cross-selling across service lines
Most clients purchased one service once, with little recurring revenue and almost no inside-sales expansion into other offerings.
The Approach
1) Diagnose each service line and its buyer reality
We evaluated each service line and mapped its decision-maker profile:
Financial Consulting: Fortune 500 CFOs and CROs
HR Consulting: HR Directors at mid-to-large companies
Brokerage: Small business owners
2) Unify the message without forcing one funnel for three different worlds
Trying to market all three service lines as one audience would have been a mess.
We unified the company narrative, created breakout elevator pitches for each service, and focused cross-sell primarily between Financial and HR (while keeping Brokerage on a more parallel track—leveraging the first two lines as credibility when appropriate).
3) Build inside sales enablement first
We created internal training and one-sheeters for each service line and built “cheat sheets” with leading questions to identify cross-sell opportunities—so the sales team could actually execute the strategy.
4) Make Salesforce the operational backbone
We implemented Salesforce and built shared processes around it so teams could track contacts/accounts consistently and leadership could finally get accurate reporting.
Our Work
Content platform and hub-and-spoke engine
Integrated a WordPress blog into the site to create one unified, searchable content library
Migrated/redirected existing “news” and blog-like content into the new hub
Built a hub-and-spoke model where the blog became the destination for campaigns, nurturing, and events
Content creation and distribution
Produced content across formats: articles, white papers, infographics, decks, and webinars
Shifted advertising from stale print to measurable content promotion (native placements, white paper distribution, webinar promotion through publications)
Event integration (pre/during/post)
Ran event-driven newsletters before and after events with curated content aligned to event themes
Equipped booth staff with business card scanners to capture prospect data and push it into Salesforce immediately, with labeling and notes for follow-up
Email segmentation and nurturing
Replaced “blast everyone” email with segmentation by company size and progressively captured attributes (pain points, interests, job focus), improving relevance over time as the database matured
Social + search as accelerators
Focused social distribution where professionals actually engage (SlideShare, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter), with minimal Facebook
Executed SEO + SEM: keyword research by buyer profile, optimized posts, sitemap submission, and ongoing AdWords/Display campaigns tied into Analytics/Webmaster/SEO tooling for measurement and iteration
Brokerage-specific direct marketing support
Added targeted direct mail to small business owners to promote online content and reach less digitally active prospects—still driving them back to the website hub
The Solution
A unified marketing-and-sales system that made three service lines operate like one growth function:
One brand narrative + service-line elevator pitches
Cross-sell enablement for inside sales
Salesforce as the shared operating system
Content hub as the center of gravity for lead generation and nurturing
Integrated distribution across publications, webinars, events, email, social, SEO/SEM, and direct mail
The Results
Within the first two years:
2,500 qualified leads delivered to sales teams
~20,000 qualified prospects added to the funnel
Website traffic increased 20x
Email open rates increased to 35%, with CTR averaging 10%+
Average time on site ~4 minutes, with 3.5 pages per visit
2,000 Twitter followers gained
1,500+ white paper downloads
