The Need
After seven years in business and roughly $5M in annual sales, Green Energy Co reached a plateau. They had no marketing program in place, and sales growth had stalled.
For two years, they attempted to introduce a new product designed to substantially reduce emissions for public sector clients at a fraction of the cost of competitive solutions. The product performed. The problem was: nobody who mattered was paying attention.
They had no repeatable mechanism to generate leads for the sales team, and efforts to reach procurement decision-makers weren’t breaking through.
The Challenge
This wasn’t a “better ads” situation. It was a go-to-market bottleneck driven by visibility, trust, and message clarity.
Public Sector Buyers Require Trust Before They Require Specs
Procurement audiences are skeptical by default and risk-averse by job description. Without awareness and credibility, even the best solution gets ignored—or gets stuck in a slow, technical evaluation loop with no urgency.
The Company Was Talking Like Engineers, Not Like Buyers
Previous outreach leaned heavily on technical data and lacked the punchy, decision-driving triggers that matter to public sector stakeholders: emissions reduction, cost, deployment friction, and upgrade ease.
First Impressions Were Actively Working Against Them
As we looked deeper, we uncovered a major barrier: the company’s brand and communications were misaligned with market expectations. The identity (black and red palette, generic template website, company-centric collateral) created a perception gap—exactly the opposite of what a green, modern technology solution should signal.
In short: even when prospects noticed them, the brand didn’t earn the next conversation.
The Approach
We took a 360-degree view of the growth problem and built a connected program that addressed both demand generation and trust-building.
Step 1: Build a Targeted ABM Engine Designed for Public Sector Accounts
MESH was engaged to develop an account-based lead generation program using marketing automation to target key accounts with personalized direct marketing, drip communications, and unique campaign landing pages.
We created a six-pronged ABM campaign to support product launch and drive sales development. This included digital and content marketing, sales collateral, trade show support, and a physical ABM component to break through procurement noise.
Step 2: Diagnose the Real Constraint—Brand Misalignment
As ABM planning progressed, it became obvious that marketing execution alone wouldn’t fix the biggest leak. The company’s brand was so out of alignment with expectations that it was suppressing conversion at the first impression level.
So we expanded the engagement into a full brand and communications overhaul—logo, website, sales collateral, marketing materials—nothing was off limits.
Step 3: Rebuild Messaging Around Buyer Triggers
We restructured how the product was presented to prospects. Instead of leading with dense technical proof, we built messaging around the outcomes that trigger action in public sector buying:
Emissions reduction potential (up to 85%)
Low total solution cost (under $1M)
Ease of installation/upgrade and low disruption
We didn’t remove technical credibility—we repositioned it as support, not the opening move.
The Solution
We delivered a combined ABM + brand transformation designed to create initial awareness, increase engagement, and generate qualified leads—so that when sales followed up, the prospect already recognized the company and understood the value.
ABM Program Execution
Monthly ABM campaigns to a targeted account list
Personalized offers and landing pages by segment/account type
Drip communications to build familiarity and reinforce value
Sales follow-up motions tied to campaign timing and engagement signals
Marketing Automation and Measurement
The entire program was managed through a marketing automation platform, enabling message testing, personalized offer deployment, and tracking of account engagement throughout the funnel. This created visibility into what was working and helped sales prioritize outreach.
Brand and Communications Overhaul
Updated identity aligned with “green + modern technology,” not “industrial + aggressive”
Rebuilt collateral to be customer-centric and outcome-driven
Refreshed website to improve credibility and clarity and support ABM landing experiences
The Results
The combined ABM and rebrand created measurable growth and built a platform for scale.
Over 2 years, revenue increased from $3M to $21M (7x growth)
The company’s momentum and market position ultimately led to acquisition by the market leader
Senior leadership gained confidence in the value of long-form, persona-led content and ABM over reliance on traditional paid advertising and short-form tactics
