About this website.
4G World™ is the largest event in the world covering the entire ecosystem of next-generation technologies that enable the mobile Internet revolution, including mobile network infrastructure, advanced devices, applications and content. 8,000 professionals registered for 2010’s event in Chicago. Yankee Group, the company behind the event, hired MESH to develop 2010’s branding, marketing collateral, core creative, and this website—after a hugely successful effort by MESH for 4GWorld in 2009. Shown here is the home page.
Complete and easy control of content.
Part of the challenges faced by the client during last year’s event were constraints placed on the site based on using an off-the-shelf Wordpress template. While there are definitely benefits to using pre-fabricated materials in any industry—you usually have to make concessions somewhere. In this case, Yankee Group found that they needed more granular control of the content—beyond what is even normally available with Wordpress. Ultimately, we ended up developing some new modules and a lot of customization to allow their internal team control over the data used within the site—displaying it in a number of different ways and in different areas.
Dynamic programs for a dynamic event.
4GWorld is one of the world’s largest mobile events, and the 4 days are highly structured. The planning that goes into the event is complex, and things shift frequently—right up until the show. This means that the website must be flexible, easy to update, and intuitive for any of the team members to use. To this end, MESH created a custom module allowing for fast and easy development and maintenance of a presentation schedule for the event, allowing users quick and easy access to a complex itinerary.
Adding value through sponsorship.
Yankee Group is always striving to add value to attendees and sponsors, and one area identified was through site sponsorship. MESH worked with the client to create a sponsorship program on the website that was tailored to their specific needs—a multi-tiered program—allowing them to extend value to their clients.
The ever changing faces of…
With such a large and dynamic event as 4G, there will always be different phases. And what works for one phase doesn’t necessarily translate well through other phases. MESH worked with Yankee Group to develop a multi-phased website, where the home page’s structure, presentation, and content all change depending on the phase of the event. Phases included Pre-show, Show, and Post-show.
Old, template drvien version.
For 2009, Yankee Group selected a freelance designer/developer to create their site. They used an off-the-shelf template, and attempted to customize it to their needs. The result? A static, boring, difficult to meet their needs, website that just didn’t work. We were brought in halfway through the project in mid-2009 to fix the website. Upon successfully transitioning, we were selected to drive the entire branding, collateral development and website design and development for 4GWorld 2010.
